May 4th

Well I had a surprise “new addition” to the family so as you can imagine I’ve been pretty

busy of late. Its called a Taurus 3 ring saw and wow does it cut glass! Very happy although

probably a little louder than than EVERYONE else wanted. Cause when your workshop is

in the middle of the house EXCESSIVE noise isn’t wanted. Lol

So from my first play with it came……..

You can see the complete panel here

And Yes it cut the pennies too!

From Feb 6 to March 6th there is a display at Richmond Library (Melbourne)

The Glass Menagerie consists of five of my animal mosaics bought to you

By the Contemporary Arts Society of Victoria.  The society’s website link is here

Happy New Year!

Ok so it’s Feb 6th and its been awhile….. I’ve been busy.

Panels are now complete. Can’t show ‘em to you yet shhhhh it’s a secret.

Oct 4th

Working on a commission piece at the moment, there are a number of artists involved.

This poses new and different challenges, very different to the “norm”.

Timelines aer a new concept to my work………

Will post pics as the panels take shape.

July 12th

Finished! 4 grout colours, clean and touch ups.

Full picture can be seen here

July 7th

Really that long?

Ok so maybe not a blog, rather a rant every once in a while!

So here’s a peak at the commission I’m working on at present.

Must admit I am having fun with it.

May 16th

Meant to post these awhile ago. What a difference grout makes.

Blend or define, lighter coloured grout tends to blend or help shade/smudge tesserae. Not in this case.

These beautiful red mosaics had been drowned out by white grout, dark brown made all the difference don’t you think?

May 8th

Latest panel just completed.

There’s been a few in between. I’ll just need some time.

So much on sooooo little time!

“Thin Ice” Was inspired by the plight of the polar bear.

Scientists estimate there are between 25,000 to 40,000 polar bears in the world.

A incredible animal, the largest living land predator alive today.

Standing 10 feet or just over 3 meters! Their world is so vast and extreme.

They would spend all their lives on sea ice living off seal if they could. However as the world warms, theirs shrinks.

Sea ice is melting sooner and freezing later each year. Can this king of the beast survive the challenge of global warming,

Well Art at Burnley Harbour went off! Liz after the organizers insistence entered three pieces and sold two!

This event is getting bigger and more popular each year. Well worth a visit if you get the chance.

Work go’s slow on my latest panel.

November 20th

Spent an enjoyable afternoon at Bibi Ostermark’s open Gallery Exhibition.

She sold a few too!

Art at Burnley Harbour Exhibition is in full swing. It’s over the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd of December.

Hope to see you there. For more information visit the Contemporary Art Society of Victoria

Has it been that long???

Let’s Go. Has been finished a while now, sadly nothing else.

See the full panel here

“Sigh” Too much work that still pays the bills.

However, Ekersley went well and Moonshine on Mountains sold and has a new home.

A new computer and setting changes has also been a problem of late. Now thankfully fixed!

I have boxed up two projects after just not getting into it enuff. Very frustrating!

Sept 9th

Cold, frozen isolation. Sounds a bit like me at the moment lol. And my latest panel. Its taken so long to complete.

Busy everywhere else! My other job….. and deadlines.  Eckersley gallery opening on Tuesday. Spent today, helping and watching the setup process. These people have done it a few times before! You can tell! Mosaics are much heavier than paintings by the way. I’ll post pictures and tell you more after the opening. Had some great feedback from everyone tho.

Here’s a sneak peak at the latest. Just have to find time to grout…….maybe tomorrow.

June 29th

All finished, well maybe one more clean.

I have been looking for an Australian Animal to create a panel of and as a young boy heard reports of sightings of the thought extinct Thyalcine or Tasmanian Tiger. Having seen most of the few pictures and video surviving of this beautiful animal, I came some footage of a caged Thylacine it was unlike any I’d seen before. The keeper was running his hand along the cage and the animal is following it as a cat or kitten chases a piece of string.  A Thylacine in hunting mode is a truly breath taking thing. I was inspired! The Tasmanian Tiger was doomed when in 1840 a bounty was put on the pouched (female) of 6/- each for less than 10 scalps and 10/- each for more.

Commencing on 28 April 1888 the Tasmanian Government paid £1 each for the scalps of adults, and 10/- each for those of juveniles.  At the time, £2 was considered a reasonable weekly wage. 2000 years ago they disappeared from mainland Australia. In 1930 the last kill was recorded, by 1936, 26 years before my birth, the last Thylacine in captivity died. You can see the full picture here.

I’d like to thank Col or was it Cameron for the images provided. Please visit their web site to view this beautiful animal in action and learn more about them. You can do that here   http://www.naturalworlds.org/thylacine/index.htm

Wow it’s hard to keep this going regularly. Here’s the latest finished panel High on a hill.

May 1st 2006

Have been busy! Too busy!

America and SAMA what a blast! Stayed with Eric Rattan for my first 3 days. Picked me up from the airport

at 2am! What a legend. Please have a look at this man’s work!

Your can find his website here. I am in awe at what this man does in stone, the depth of his technical ability and his passion for his art.

I was privileged to see his latest work in progress.  The creative spark burns bright in Madison, Wisconsin. Watch his space!

The last leg of my pilgrimage took me to 3 Art glass factories (Portland & Seattle) and went on their tours. I’ll post pics of everything, when I get a chance.

I have just finished a new panel since I’ve been back.

It’s called, Moonshine on Mountains. 90 x 90cm Ok, so it’s another big one!

Find it here.

A new one is in the works as well. The design is finished and have started cutting. Nothing stuck yet tho.

I’m still in the hyper critical stage. Lol!  Once this part of the process has passed, I’ll settle down into the cut and paste of it.

I look forward to that part of the process! I become so absorbed. It’s when all is well with my world!

So I’ve had my break and I’m going to get back to it!

More soon

Steve

Happy New Year!

Yes, it’s probably been that long!

Christmas came again for me early Jan to be exact!

This was such an honor and I still find it hard to believe!

The award is given after a member’s vote on which mosaic appealed to them over the year.

I'm very grateful for this award. Wow!

Poles Apart was finished about 10th of March pictures have taken a little longer than usual. (More on that later.)

You can see the full panel here in Courtyard Views

Jim’s Jungle was inspired by an earlier mosaic called Into the Jungle and originally was going to be very similar.

It ended up very different.  Here’s a bad shot early on,

This panel was created during the holiday break and thru January. After having decent overhead lighting installed

in the studio (thanks Hilton!) was reintroducing myself to all glass I had squirreled away. With the lights and my glasses on.

Found the mountains! They were hiding in a sheet I’d forgotten I had…. or just couldn’t see lol!

You can view the finished panel here!

LATE NEWS after purchasing a new digital camera and although not still totally at home with it yet, are blown away with the quality of the pictures it takes! Have been taking lots of pictures of older work and will be replacing a lot of the current 1’s soon.

Whiteout started out to be just eyes, ended up as a lot more.

With the two sides being very different adds more character, don’t you think?

You can see him here.

Luna Trees

I’m really trying to remember where the inspiration came from this one!

Had a hard time trying to get the feel right for the background just couldn’t get the mist rolling.

Once I added the ground to it.. grounded it…………. Anyway!

Here’s the final result!

Full pic and another detail shot here

Into The Jungle is complete

Very happy with this one was looking for a big ask from the grout…..

And I think it made all the difference. Full pictures and details here in courtyard views.

Table challenge.

No rules, only that the design can’t have a “right way to view it! No up or down if you like.”

What would happen if two mosaic artists wanted to do a tabletop each to put in to a retail nursery for sale!

What if the artists were husband and wife.

Well for a start the husband could pinch the wife’s idea! LOL!

Watch this space.

Ok all done!

Lilly Pond Complete

Lights does not show the true colour of the mosaic at all.

Looks fantastic Liz.

The semi translucent glass looks deep. The orange glass in the goldfish

Shows movement. When I take some better shots I’ll post em!
